The buzz within the world of IT is all about Big Data (BD) but is it really just a hype whipped up by marketing buffs. It is interesting to read the views of some of the key players in the field of data warehouse and buisness intelligence regarding this phenomenon. Take for example Bill Inmom, arguably the godfather of data warehouse, it is interesting to read Bill’s thought on Big Data which is articulated from the perspectives of ‘search’ and ‘analysis’.
My guess is that once the hype is subdued Big Data will find its rightful place in the field of the technology just like XML – anyone remember the hype when XML first came out?
